The elephant is a metaphor or a picture in your mind. the elephant = the problem money could be a problem Example 1 If you go out to dinner and order the most expensive meal on the menu. You know you should not spend so much money. Your friend knows you should not spend so much money. But your friend says nothing. The elephant (the problem) in the room (at the restaurant) is you spending too much money. Example 2 There is a bad employee at the meeting. The bad employee tells jokes and behaves badly. But...... no one in the meeting says 'stop'. The "elephant in the room" is that people are not telling the bad employee to stop. problem - bad employee The real problem is that no one will talk about it. ------------------------- Did anyone change their vote for Picture 1 or Picture 2? ============================ Irregular Past Tense Verbs and Past Participles Regular Past Tense Verbs -end with -ed Irregular Past Tense Verbs - no -ed ending - MOST words will change form in the past tense buy/bought/bought I buy a dress today. Yesterday, I bought a dress. I am feeling good today. Yesterday I was not feeling good. ----------------------- cost/cost/cost Exception- There is no change in the past or past participle. cost (= price of something) The dress cost a lot. Last year the dress cost a lot. It had cost me a lot last year. I didn't study for the test. It cost me my good grade in the class. Other exceptions: cut cut cut hit hit hit -------------------------- go/went/gone Good example of complet change in the past form word and the past participle word. Today I 'go' to school. Yesterday, I 'went' to school.
