Wednesday, March 1 - Factoring and FOIL

Factoring is the process of finding the factors: Factoring: Finding what to multiply together to get an expression. It is like "splitting" an expression into a multiplication of simpler expressions.

FOIL is the opposite - combining the terms to get a polynomial

A handy way to remember how to multiply two binomials.

It stands for "First, Outer, Inner, Last"

It is the sum of:
· multiplying the First terms,
· multiplying the Outer terms,
· multiplying the Inner terms, and
· multiplying the Last terms

Example: (a+b)(c+d) = ac + ad + bc + bd
