Tuesday, March 17 - Writing the Essay
For the GED essay, you will be given two passages to read. The articles will take different sides of the same issue. You will need to write a five paragraph essay detailing which side you agree with and why.
To explore this further, I have videos here that explain how you are graded on the GED essay as well as writing prompt for you to practice.
In general, you will be graded on:
- Essay organization
- Your argument and use of evidence (Use at least one quote from one of the articles!)
- Your use of the English language (Good grammar!)
Remember a 5-paragraph essay should include:
- Intro (2-3 sentences)
- 3 body paragraphs (1 topic sentence and 3-4 supporting sentences)
- Conclusion (2-3 sentences)
Don't be afraid to use your TIDE chart to help you organize your ideas!
