Thursday, Sept. 25 - Adding and Subtracting Decimals

Objective: By the end of this lesson, you will be able to add and subtract decimals.

Adding and subtracting decimals is the same as adding and subtracting whole numbers -- with a decimal point!

All you need to do is make sure your decimal point is lined up, then you add or subtract as you normally would. You can carry or borrow just as if the decimal point weren't there.

Watch:

Step 1: Line up the decimal points. You may add zeros if you would like to at the end or beginning of each number.

   1.45

+ 0.30
________

Step 2: Add or subtract like you normally would and bring down the decimal point.

   1.45

+ 0.30
________

   1.75
