Wednesday, Oct. 22 - Introduction to Percents
Objective: By the end of this lesson, you will understand what percents are and their relation to fractions and decimals.
Percent literally means “per 100.” So it is the amount you have per 100.
1% is 1 per every 100
When you write a percent as a fraction, put the number over 100.
5% is 5/100 or 1/20
To write a fraction as a percent, divide the top by the bottom.
1/20 = 1 divided by 20 = .05 = 5%
When you write percent as a decimal, move the decimal point 2 places to the left.
5% is .05
When you write a decimal as a percent, move the decimal point 2 places to the right.
So …. .05 = 5%
